A debate was organized on the same subject in which three students Rahul Sharma, Sweety Pramanik and Arati Sharma from Class VIII and three students Tiya Dey, Neelu Turha and Gayatri Kumari from Class IX spoke for three minutes each and were judged on five parameters ; content, pronunciation, memory, expression and time limit.
The presentation made by the students were very informative and covered almost all the aspects of why girl and how child should be saved and what positive impact it will have on society and the various government efforts being carried out in this regards.
The declining Child Sex Ratio in the country between 0 – 6 years with an all-time low of 918 in 1000 is a great concern. Preference for sons & discrimination towards daughters has aggravated the problem.
With the formation of Jharkhand the speaker rightly felt that the Child Sex Ratio has reduced drastically from 965 in 2001 to 943 in 2011. Dhanbad with 916, East Singhbhum with 922, Hazaribagh with 924 and Ramgarh with 926 are the worst districts and needs proper orientation and attention to promote birth of girl child, her survival & protection coupled with proper education.
Students felt that women and girl child should be given due respect and support as it will help make the society, generation and even nation stronger.
The programme was inaugurated by Kanchan Singh, District Governor and Rajnish Kumar, First Vice District Governor who were also in the panel of judges and had difficult times in deciding the winner.
Seeing the overall performance Rahul Sharma the only male speaker was adjudged the best closely followed by Arati Sharma, Sweety Pramanik, all from Class VIII. The three girls from Class IX also excelled well and all three of them were appreciated for their efforts. All the six speakers were rewarded suitably.
