Jamshedpur: The President of India on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Raghubar Das as the Governor of Odisha. In a significant reshuffle, the President has announced new appointments for several states.
As per an official statement, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, the current Governor of Mizoram, has been appointed as the new Governor of Odisha. General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.), will assume office as the Governor of Mizoram.
In another key change, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Governor of Bihar, has been appointed as the Governor of Kerala, while Arif Mohammed Khan, who currently serves as the Governor of Kerala, will take over as the Governor of Bihar. Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been named the new Governor of Manipur.
According to BJP members close to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das is set to rejoin the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after stepping down as the Governor of Odisha. His resignation was formally accepted by President Droupadi Murmu.
Das, a senior BJP leader, served as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019 and was elected five times as the MLA from Jamshedpur East. His political legacy continues as his daughter-in-law, Purnima Sahu, recently won the 2024 assembly election from the same Jamshedpur East constituency, defeating Congress leader Ajay Kumar by a margin of 42,000 votes.
