Quarantine centres in Jamshedpur to be converted into Covid-19 wards

Jamshedpur, July 7: The district health department is working to convert quarantine centres in and around the steel city into Covid wards.

The health department has started preparation for converting quarantine centres into Covid ward in view of a large number of people turning out to be Coronavirus positive while the number of beds at the designated Covid Hospitals is limited.

District civil surgeon, RN Jha held a meeting of the health department officials at his office in Khasmahal on Tuesday afternoon over  the issue of fast rising cases of Covid-19 and how to accommodate the surging patients in a limited health care facility for the Covid.

We are looking for more such centres so that so that we are prepared to meet any such challenge. The situation is control right now but we are taking every step to ensure safety. So far we have nearly 2000 bed quarantine facilities in different blocks of the district. Still we want to keep some places in our hands for quarantine facilities in case of emergencies, said an official.

We are taking every possible step to combat challenges posed by coronavirus. We have asked the district officers to come up with quarantine centres across the district so that patients can be kept isolated, said Ravi Shankar Shukla, deputy commissioner.  Isolation centres have come up in several places in the city but the idea is to ensure such places in rural areas too.

An official said that the administration in all the districts must ensure that locals use face masks and maintain social distancing. Every district should pay special attention to the migrants. All officials must ensure that migrants remain in quarantine for at least 14 days, he said. According to NHM, at least 1100 of the 1400-plus Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand around 77 per cent are migrants.

Persons tested positive have travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. They had arrived in the city and were staying in quarantine centres in different parts. All the positive cases have been shifted to Tata Main Hospital Covid wing.

The administration is now looking for more quarantine centres to help patients recover. Soon after  cases of Covid – 19 started reporting in East Singhbhum district,  nine rooms at the Ghaghidih Central Jail were used as quarantine centre for keeping suspected prisoners for 21 days.

The administration has urged people to cooperate with the district administration in preventing the possible spread of corona virus. The communiqu said that people should not move out of homes unnecessarily, they must use a mask, wash their hands regularly with soap or use a sanitizer. Do not spit here or there.
