Purnima Netralaya dedicates vitreo retina unit to the people

Jamshedpur: A vitreo retina unit was inaugurated at Purnima Netralaya in Brahmananda Nagar, Tamolia near Pardih Chowk on Sunday by Gouri Shankar Roy, general manager, Timken India Limited, Jamshedpur.

Dr Partha Biswas, honorary medical director of the hospital and Dr Monika Horo, chief medical officer, said the unit was dedicated to the cause of retinal blindness in the state. They said the new facility will prove to be a boon for the needy people who will be able to avail the facility in their own city itself.

In his address, the chief guest praised the hospital management for its great contribution to the cause of people suffering from retinal blindness both in and outside Jharkhand. A large number of suffer from the problem in want of proper care and treatment, he said.

Roy said the Purnima Netralaya had done a great service to humanity and the people suffering from vision problems through the opening of the vitreo retina unit in the hospital.

The guests of honour of the programme were Dr Debashish Bhattacharya, president Elect, AIOS and Dr Lalit Verma, chairman, scientific committee, AIOS.

A live surgery programme on vitreo retina, glaucoma and cataract will be organized tomorrow at athe hospital from 10 am to 3 pm, said the hospital officials.
