Jamshedpur, Dec 29: Criminals have become more daring in the Mango area as the police seems to be failing in putting them on leash.

On Tuesday, criminals shot at Danish, a resident of Old Purulia Road under Azadnagar thana area and his aide. Both were rushed to Tata Main Hospital where Danish breathed his last. There are several cases lodged against Danish in different police stations.

The aide who is also critical was interrogated by SSP East Singhbhum M . Tamilvanan at the Tata Main Hospital premises.

Police claim that the firing was done over personal enmity and over a battle to reign supremacy.

“There was a longstanding dispute between Danish and Jitesh over sale and purchase of lands in Mango area and on Tuesday afternoon Jitesh, Pankaj Singh and others conspired to murder him.

Both Jitesh and Pankaj Singh are involved in the murder case of Sunil Sharma, a resident of Ulidih in Mango are members of the Guddu Pandey (currently lodged in Ghaghidih jail) gang.

Soon after the incident, Azadnagar OC, Vishnu Raut rushed to the spot. Immediately after City SP, Subhash Chandra Jat also reached the spot for the investigation.

” As per initial investigation, the murder victim was a land dealer and had also criminal records.  From the preliminary investigation, it appears that the murder took place due to enmity over monetary transaction related to landed property sale-purchase,” said the OC, Vishnu Raut.

He informed that they are trying to detect the assailants by taking out the CCTV footage from the scene of murder.

The OC said the murder victim would sell unauthorised government land and had developed enmity with several rivals in the field. He said Danish was arrested in Arms Act twice.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim who was a resident of Noor Colony on Road No 20 in Old Purulia Road in Mango was sitting on his scooter near a turning of the Noor Colony.

“The city had been free from crimes, but now the `knife culture’ has taken roots. The attacks at Mango, Kadma and Sonari are glaring examples. The police should act with utmost vigil and nab the accused.  The increase in crimes is a matter of concern. Thefts were a common but recent rise of cases of murders is serious. A crime wave has gripped the city in recent months with figures showing a substantial increase in the number of murders, thefts and robberies taking place across the city. Our city has the reputation of being safe but in the last few days crime graphs have witnessed a sudden rise. It is high time that police identify such criminals and action is taken against them,” said a social worker.

A senior official said police were taking necessary steps to control and detect crime. “We are giving our best and will come up with results very soon,” he claimed.

A crime wave has gripped the city in recent months with figures showing a substantial increase in the number of murders, thefts and robberies taking place across the city.

Significantly, earlier too there have been firing and murders in the same area of Mango, Pardih and Dimna Road due to dispute over land sale and purchase.

Mango is becoming a safe zone for miscreants as recently a close aide of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim was caught from a residential apartment in Mango area.
