Prepare a comprehensive plan for plantation of lac: RS Sharma

Ranchi, Feb 11: Chief Secretary R.S. Sharma today said that diversification of work under the ambit of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) could provide livelihood to more people in the state. He said that this arrangement would be organic, durable and sustainable for empowering people.He was speaking at a meeting with officers of Rural Development and Forest Departments was held at the Project Building.

Chief Secretary suggested large-scale plantation of tasar, lac and cashew nut in barren land. He directed the Forest Department to identify the level and limit of plantation.

He stressed on implementing Vriksha Patta Scheme, through which the people were allotted trees planted in a given area. However, the person does not hold the ownership of the land but has an ownership of the trees. The individual is responsible for maintenance of the trees and has the advantage of its produce though he could not cut it.

Directing the Forest Department to demarcate such forest land for this purpose, the Chief Secretary asked the Forest and Rural Development Departments to draft a joint circular in this connection.

Rural Development SecretaryShri Arun, Principal Secretary Forest Smt. Alka Tiwari, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Shri A.K. Malhotra along with Jharcraft Managing Director Shri Dhirendra Kumar officials of the two departments was present at the meeting.
