Jamshedpur: Electricity supply to the blood bank and several other departments of MGM Hospital was stopped for several hours following a snag around 11.30 on Friday.
Power supply to skin OPD and injection room for children was also disrupted, leading patients to suffer from problem. The doctors as well as paramedical staff could not work in want of alternative arrangement. Patients were compelled to spend time in darkness. The most affected department was the blood bank.
The blood bank doctors said a total of 80 units of blood were available. If electricity is not there for eight hours, the stored blood may become useless, he said.
Paralegal volunteer (PLV) Nagendra Kumar met the hospital superintendent and complained to him regarding the power cut. He requested the latter to make alternative arrangements for power supply.
The superintendent said the power cable will be replaced within two or three days.
