Jamshedpur : Yuva Sangh Basti Vikas Samiti Gamharia has expressed concern over rising pollution in river Subernarekha and Kharkai.
The activists said that apart from large scale flow of industrial and domestic waste in the river, encroachment of the bank area was also a matter of grave concern.
He said, ‘Rivers are like economic, social and cultural spine of the country. We must keep them alive by foiling the attempts of large scale encroachment and flow of pollutants in to them.
Sources said samples of water collected from the two rivers indicated high presence of mixed oxides and mineral wastes, which are harmful to marine life and human beings who take bath in the river water.
