Jamshedpur : The Jamshedpur police are yet to trace chit-fund scam accused Rekha Devi of Kadma. A case was registered with the Kadma police station.
A resident of Ramjanam Nagar in Kadma, Rekha (45) has fled her home along with her husband Yashwant Rai (52) after a case of cheating was registered on Saturday on the basis of an FIR lodged by Seema Devi, one of the duped investors.
The accused is said to hhave duped Rs 1. 5 crore of the local people in the name of investment schemes.
The police have put the number of the Devi on surveillance and they were confident to nab her. ” The search is on and we raided the house of the accused Rekha Devi several time since last afternoon, but she could not be traced. We have put Rekha’s cell-phone number on surveillance,” said officer-in-charge of Kadma police station Jaiprakash Rana while talking.
Speaking about Umesh Singh, the alleged son of a police officer, the Kadma officer-in-charge said that they have been scanning each and every police officers posted in the East Singhbhum district police, but so far have not been able to find out the whereabouts of Umesh Singh nor could they get it verified whether he was the son of any police officer as had been claimed by the informant of the case Seema Devi.
Meanwhile, as the police have not succeeded to trace the accused persons, the investors have decided to stage demonstration in front of the senior superintendent of police’s office tomorrow.
One of the investors they have decided for staging a demonstration in front of the senior SP, Amol V Homkar’s office, demanding the arrest of the accused so that they may get back their money.
Notably, Rekha Devi has duped over 100 people, mostly women of over Rs 1.5 crores. She had first started organising chit-funds among friends and neighbours circle and later switched over to amassing money from the people by promising them jobs in Tata Steel and Railways.
In this connection, the police have already registered a case against Rekha Devi and her husband Yashant Rai, both residents of Ramjanam Nagar in Kadma on Saturdayon the basis of one of the investors, Seema Devi, who has been duped of Rs 3 lakh.
Seema Devi had lodged the FIR, the accused Rekha Devi had assured the agitated investors to return their money by Sunday morning, but today the woman fled her home along with her husband instead of returning the money.
Rekha Devi started organising `chit-fund’ two years ago and when she could know that there are people who have paying capacity, she started switching over to other racket like providing jobs in railways and Tata Steel.
