Strict monitoring through CCTVs, focus on market area
Jamshedpur : To ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, district administration is taking unprecedented measures to tackle eve teasing. According to information besides posting of policemen in uniform, security men will also be posted in plain clothes in crowded areas to check teasing and other crimes. Women constables in plain clothes would also be deployed to check teasing.
Police officials informed that they have identified places where women could be more vulnerable to such behaviour and extra force has been deployed at such points. Surprise checks would be carried out at places where hooligans are likely to gather and harass passers-by.
Special instructions in the form of dos and don’t have been issued to all puja organisers. Puja committees have also been instructed to install CCTV cameras.
Superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand said we have decided to take certain concrete measures for the safety and security of the people. We have not only decided to increase the patrolling, but also increase the mobile cops.
The city SP informed that the vigilant cops have been instructed to pick up anyone moving in the marketplaces without any specific purpose and for carrying out random search of suspected criminals. He said that the monitoring of the CCTV cameras has also been beefed up so that the police may swing into action in the event of any criminal act at the markets or on the streets.
He stated that the Sakchi and Bistupur area will be of priority for intensified patrolling right from 9 am till 10 pm.
“We will keep eye on anti-social elements trying to create disturbance in any area. People should celebrate their festival without any fear. We assure them of peaceful Durga Puja,” said Anoop Mathew , SSP East Singhbhum.
Sources informed that SSP has also asked all the police station in-charge to give details about their puja pandals in their respective areas so that according to its strength number of forces could be deployed.
Several cases like these have become common in the city. However the police look serious to curb the menace. “We have been receiving complains of eve-teasing in different localities of the city, directions have been given to the police authorities to tighten the noose around the miscreants indulging in these activities,” said police officials.
Meanwhile sources informed that the district police would also rope in 600 police personnel from different districts to ensure proper security arrangements. Special task force men, armed with binoculars and sophisticated weapons, will be posted atop during the festive week.
