Police team in Gujarat to probe Congress leader murder case

Jamshedpur, Aug. 24: A three-member team of police officials from Seraikela-Kharsawan district has left for Gandhinagar in Gujarat in connection with the murder of Congress leader Shanbabu.

Led by officer-in-charge, Adityapur thana, Arvind Kumar the team will go to the Gandhinagar-based Forensic Sciences University for subjecting two prime accused in the Shanbabu murder case to polygraph and brain-mapping tests.

The Gandhinagar-based Forensic Sciences University is one of the best forensic labs in the world and once Santosh Thapa and Chhotu Ram, planner of the murder and shooter respectively are subjected to undergo the polygraph and brain-mapping tests, the truth about the conspiracy angle may be unfolded, the Seraikela-Kharsawan district police believes.

Shanbabu a local Congress leader was shot dead by two unidentified assailants on the Adityapur toll bridge under Adityapur police station area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on June 15 evening.

The murder victim who had also a business of land sale-purchase was on a walk on the toll bridge at about 7.30 pm when the two bike-borne assailants had shot him.

Sanbabu (50) was shot in the head from behind. He was rescued by one of his acquaintaces, Anadi Acharchya, and rushed in an ambulance to Tata Main Hospital where he died after few minutes.

Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, Indrajeet Mahatha said that they have sent the police team to Gandhinagar as they have to detect the conspirator in the murder case.

“We have so far arrested seven accused in connection to the murder, including Santosh Thapa and Chhotu Ram, but we yet to find out the conspirator. We will detect the conspirator of the case by putting Thapa and Ram under the polygraph and brain-mopping tests,” said Mahatha.

The police team will complete the formalities pertaining to the scientific tests at the Gandhinagar-based forensic science university and in the next trip, the they would take both Thapa and Ram along there for undergoing the tests.
Mahatha said that they have the names of the alleged conspirators, Prabhakar Singh and Divakar Singh, both brothers and residents of Kadma.

“We have also sufficient reports to arrest the Singh brothers, who are absconding now as the complainant and widow of the murder victim Ritika Mukhi has mentioned their names in the FIR. Moreover, Chhotu Ram (21) who was also arrested had divulged during interrogation that Thapa had close connection with the Singh brothers and they must have got the murder executed through Thapa,” said the senior police officer.

After the arrest of Thapa in July, the police had taken the 35-year-old accused in police remand twice for interrogation into the conspiracy angle, but he proved to be a hard nut to crack.

“Though Thapa admitted his own involvement in the case, but he did not say anything as to whether the alleged conspirator, Prabhakar and Diwakar were involved in the murder or not.

This adamant stand taken up by Thapa led us to think for running a scientific tests in Gujarat on the Singh brothers who are the named accused,” said another police officer.
