To ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, district administration is taking unprecedented measures to tackle eve teasing.
According to information besides posting of policemen in uniform, security men will also be posted in plain clothes in crowded areas to check teasing and other crimes. Women constables in plain clothes would also be deployed to check teasing.
Police officials informed that they have identified places where women could be more vulnerable to such behaviour and extra force has been deployed at such points. Surprise checks would be carried out at places where hooligans are likely to gather and harass passers-by.
Special instructions in the form of dos and dont have been issued to all puja organisers. Puja committees have also been instructed to install CCTV cameras.

Several cases like these have become common in the city. However the police look serious to curb the menace. In the year 2010, 261 cases of crime against women were reported in different police stations in the district.
Four cases of rape and several cases of eve-teasing have come to the light in the city so far, this year.
We have been receiving complains of eve-teasing in different localities of the city, directions have been given to the police authorities to tighten the noose around the miscreants indulging in these activities, said police officials.
Meanwhile sources informed that the district police would also rope in 600 police personnel from different districts to ensure proper security arrangements.
Special task force men, armed with binoculars and sophisticated weapons, will be posted atop during the festive week.
The district administration is already re-orienting traffic by identifying the busy roads and banning the entry of heavy vehicles on those routes.
Rajesh Kumar, a senior NCC cadet said that the increasing number of the vehicles in the city, especially the two wheelers, and floods of people thronging the roads during the Pujas make traffic movement to a halt.
The traffic police find it too, difficult to control the traffic movement on the busy streets.
Kumar said that cadets last year carried out ‘ puja duty’ at specific pandals on the request of the puja organisers but, this year they have decided to expand their reach.
