Police run special security drive at picnic spots

Jamshedpur : In the wake of rising cases of snatching, burglary, group clashes, assault and eve-teasing in the city, the district police have launched special drive to nab criminals and ensure a peaceful New Year celebration.

In such a drive the police arrested as many as 15 youth for allegedly creating nuisance and indulged in consuming drugs at Jubilee Park. Several of those arrested had female companions, but the police let the girls go home before nabbing up the trouble makers.

Revealing about the arrest, officer-in-charge, Bistupur police station Awdesh Kumar Yadav said that the picked up 15 from different spots in the Jubilee Park and adjoining Tata Steel Zoological Park. “Those nabbed by the police have been arrested under Section 151 of the Indian Penal Code.

Though it is a bailable section, the accused will be released only after furnishing a PR Bond (Personal Release Bond), said Yadav.

Yadav said that operation against the trouble creators in the public places like Jubilee Park was launched in accordance with an instruction made by senior superintendent of police Amol V Homkar at a crime review meeting held recently.

For carrying out vigilance against the trouble makers at the park over 50 police personnel, including lady police have been deployed. The police personnel belonging to the Jharkhand Armed Police have to frisk anyone suspecting keeping narcotic substance or liquor while moving around the park.
The police men have also to keep an eye whether anyone is indulged in rash-driving in the crowded places inside the park.

The police department has asked the people to take care of their family members and children when they are going for picnics. The people have also been advised to take adequate care for the protection of their homes when they leave for other places.

�There has been spurt in criminal activities in the city. We have to make sure that the year end celebration in the city is peaceful and we are taking every step in this regard. For the next one month arms checking will continue without any break while, those driving vehicles in drunken state would be booked without much queries and police are going to get tough with hood-lumps, this time,” Amol V Homkar, SSP, East Singhbhum.

�During this season eve-teasing cases register an increase at the picnic spots so the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing in the picnic spots,� said an official of the district women�s cell.

Notably, the Jubilee Park is a public place where a large number of people, including tourists and picnickers visit on New Year. Keeping the assembling of visitors in large number on the occasion of New Year, the district police authorities have decided to keep the park an incident-free by making special security arrangement.
