Jamshedpur, March 10: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Samaj and AJSU Party staged a grand welcome for Akhilesh Singh on being elected president of the state unit of the organization on Thursday.

The gathering was so large at the Mango Bridge that the police had to resort to a mild lathi charge to bring the crowd under control.

The lathi charge led to a virtual stampede in the area, while many supporters of Singh fled the scene leaving their vehicles behind. Police have seized the vehicles.

A large number of people had assembled to welcome Singh at the Mango Bridge. As the crowd became unruly and disrupted the traffic system in the city, the police had to resort to lathi charge. Before entering the city, Singh visited the Kali temple on the national highway along with his supporters.

It is worth mentioning here that Singh arrived in the city from Ranchi via road on Thursday to attend a hearing in the court.

The police arrested Singh from the Mango Bridge and took him to Sakchi police station, where the city SP Chandan Jha spoke to him for about 30 minutes. Singh was released soon after.
