Jamshedpur, March 17: In major development, the police and paramilitary forces,including the CRPF, recovered three firearms from Makuli village under Ghatshila police station area bordering West Bengal on Wednesday evening.
East Singhbhum SSP Anoop T Mathew said that acting on a tip-off that a squad of the Naxal leader Rahul was at Makuli village, a police and CRPF team rushed to the spot. During inquiry, they found the firearms, including two guns and a pistol, from a bush. The SSP said the seized firearms were country-made and it is suspected that they were hidden there by the CPI-Maoist rebels.
According to information, the police administration here is focusing on Ghatshila sub-division to curb the Naxal menace. A senior police officer said that a meeting was called recently to review security arrangements in the subdivision. The senior cops gave important tips on the security and discuss on the situation at bordering areas with West Bengal, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
Sources informed that the ultras belonging to the banned outfit CPI (Maoist) have been active in the Ghatshila sub-division that comprises of areas like Dumaria, Musaboni, Chakulia, Bahragora and Ghatshila.
They further said that the police have decided to ensure strict vigil and deploy additional security forces in the fringe areas.
�Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,� said another official.
According to information the meeting, besides taking up other issues, resolved to increase ‘joint operation’ with the neighbouring states in all the Naxal-infested blocks of the three districts that are attached to bordering states of West Bengal and Odisha.
