Police recover five stolen bikes from Bhuinyadih

Jamshedpur : The police today raided a house at Bhuinyadih Hume Pipe bustee under Sitaramdera police station in early hours and recovered five stolen bike from there. While raiding the place, the police arrested a youth identified as Mohammed Saddam, where as two of his associates managed to escape.

Superintendent of police (city) Karthik S said that the Saddam who is a resident of Road No 4 in
Ranikudar, Bistupur used to run a racket of bike-lifting in the city.

According to Karthik, the Bistupur police station’s officer-in-charge Jitendra Kumar had got a tip off that Saddam who was operating a bike-lifting gang had kept several stolen bikes at a house at Hume Pipe Bustee in Bhuinyadih.
According to police, Saddam had kept the stolen bikes at Bhuiyandih for selling them out to parties outside the state by making forged ownership papers. The vehicles which have been recovered were stolen from the Bistupur, Sakchi and Sonari areas.

“We are trying to find out if the gang led by Saddam had stolen more vehicles. We are also trying to arrest the two others who succeeded to flee,” said the City SP.

The district police, however, have failed to take any concrete action to curb the theft of motorcycles, which remain one of the most popular, and cheapest, forms of personal transportation.

Observers say that taking the lack of police effort in this area into account is also one of the reasons for the sudden rise.

Requesting anonymity, a senior police officer the victims who are a part of the lower middle class do not generally protest to pursue the case. �This is the reason why the motorcycle theft issue has never been taken seriously,� he observed.

He added that motorcycles can be easily disposed of, and there is �no concept of proper registration plates for motorcycles�. He said that the number of motorcycles had also drastically increased.

Most of the snatched or stolen motorcycles end up in the used spare parts markets after they are dismantled, according to sources, who add that a small number of motorcycles are taken to Bihar and other neighbouring states where they are disposed of.

Vehicle thefts have indeed assumed alarming proportions, registering a sharp increase in compared with 2009.
The figures from the police show that about 10 bikes have been stolen from different places in last three days. In last 24-hours alone three bikes were stolen from different places.
