Police nab thieves involved in stealing automobile bearings from trucks

Jamshedpur: Police on Thursday busted a gang involved in dismantling automobile bearings and other parts from stationary truck chassis near Tata Motors Ltd’s stockyard in Telco.

Those arrested were identified Devendra Singh (27) and Mohammed Shamim (25) alias Kana and and Loveprit Singh alias Love (26).

The police have also recovered 58 cartons of bearings worth Rs 28.3 lakh from a house at Namda Bustee under Golmuri police station area.

Revealing about the breakthrough, officer-in-charge, Bistupur police station Srinivas said two city-based businessmen had lodged separate FIRs with the Bistupur police station on February 1 night, alleging theft of cartons of bearings from Bistupur the previous night. Following this the police came into action.

According to police, the two businessmen, Ramawatar Agrawal and Sunil Bagaria owns industrial units at Adityapur and godowns at Nataraj Mansion in Bistupur.

” As per our investigation, on January 31, the criminals stole bearings worth Rs 9.3 lakh from the godown at Gajaraj Mansion. Just outside Gajaraj Mansion was parked a stationary truck in which a consignment of bearing worth Rs 19 lakh was loaded.

The officer-in-charge said the thieves had decamped with the bearing from the godowns and truck by using a stolen mini-truck and kept the cartons of stolen bearing at Devendra Singh’s house in Namda Bustee in Golmuri.

Talking to the newsmen, the officer-in-charge said the day after getting the complaint of bearing theft, he sent a team of police officer to Kolkata seeking information about the thieves who used to sell stolen auto-spare parts there.

The police team had also managed to get the address of the two thieves. He said Samim was arrested from his house in Golmuri after Labprit and Devendra were arrested.

According to police, the three arrested persons have also confessed that they would dismantle parts of the Tata Motors chassis from near the Tata Motors Ltd’s yards and used to sell in the market.
