Police nab dreaded rebel Sanjay Ganjhu after encounter

Chaibasa, Dec 11: The suspected mastermind behind Chaibasa Jail break, Sanjay Ganjhu was on Thursday injured in an encounter with the police and was later admitted to ICU of Rajdendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Sanjay carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head. Under tight security he was admitted to the hospital in Ranchi after he was shot at in his legs. According to reports the security personnel�s arrested Sanjay from the forest after December 9 Jail break in Chaibasa.

Sanjay was with two other moists who managed to escape the scene. Addressing the media, West Singhbhum SP Naresh Kumar Singh said, �After the jail break incident district police jointly with CRPF started the combing drive and during that they had encounter with the naxals at West Singhbhum and Simdega district border.

During the gunfight naxals managed to flee the scene but when police reached the spot they found a man lying down as bullet was stuck in his legs. During interrogation we found that he was Naxal Sanjay Ganjhu alias Sanjay Bodra�.

SP further informed that Police has arrested Sanjay and has sent him to RIMS for treatment. �Sanjay Ganjhu is the mastermind behind several naxal attacks at Saranda while he has over 60 cases registered against him at Gumla, Simdega and Khunti�. SP didn�t rule out from the fact that he may be the mastermind behind Chaibasa Jail break on Tuesday.

It may be noted that on Tuesday, two under-trial prisoners, who are suspected to be Maoists, were killed and three others injured in police firing in Chaibasa.

The incident took place around 4 pm when 20 under-trials tried to escape from the divisional jail.The policemen open fired at the prisoners escaping when they failed to catch them. However, 15 prisoners including some hardcore Maoists managed to escape from the jail.

With the ongoing polls in the state, the police sounded a high alert at all jails across Jharkhand and all exit points in the district were sealed. The police also launched a massive manhunt to nab them.
