Awareness meeting held at Parsudih police station

Jamshedpur, July 15 : With rising incidents of mob lynching sparked by rumours, mainly through social media, the district police have launched an awareness drives with focus on rural areas. Under the initiative, meetings will be held with local people educating them to contact police when they spot any suspected person.
Police recently organised an awareness meeting on mob lynching at Parsudih police station. Chaired by SP (City) Subhash Chandra Jatt, the meeting was attended by Parsudihthana OC Animesh Gupta, BDO Malay Kumar and locals. Jatt said people should not take law in their hands and report any matter to the police immediately. He urged people to remain alert and to inform the nearby police station or gaonburah about any incident of mob violence and lynching.
Following death of 24-year Tabrez Ansari who was allegedly fell victim of mob lynching on the wee hours of June 18, the police are taking every step to educate people not to take law in their hands. In the last few years Kolhan division has witnessed incidents of several people getting attacked by suspicious mobs.
In 2017, four cattle traders were also lynched at different villages in Rajnagar block of Seraikela-Kharsawan district while three youths (including two brothers Gautam and VikasVerma) were lynched at Nagadih in Bagbera and an elderly (76 year old) grandmother of the two lynched brothers, Ramsakhi Devi was critically injured. Later, Ramsakhi Devi succumbed to her injuries at Tata Main Hospital.
�We are here to make you understand that do not trust rumours. If anyone is found suspicious, contact the local police station. We are there to help you do not take law into your own hands,�Parsudihthana OC Animesh Gupta. He reiterated that the locals must immediately contact the nearby police station.
�We are trying to make people aware through various means so that they do not fall prey to rumours being spread through WhatsApp,� said another official. The officer said that in rural areas, policemen are reaching out to people in the smallest of villages and trying to educate them.
The police are also targeting the weekly markets in rural areas to cover maximum number of people. In addition to this, police have been tasked with holding meetings with villagers to create awareness.
