Jamshedpur, Oct 16: In response to the announcement of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, police have intensified security measures at the Jharkhand-Odisha border. A police check post was established on Wednesday at the border drain bridge near Muchrishol, where officers are conducting thorough inspections of vehicles traveling from Odisha via the Gudabanda-Dumaria route.

The primary goal of these measures is to prevent the transport of illegal cash into Jharkhand that could be misused during the elections. This initiative comes in light of several cash seizure incidents during the last Lok Sabha elections, where drivers were found carrying amounts exceeding the legal limit. Local authorities are keen to ensure a fair electoral process in the state.

Authorities have set up check posts at various entry points, particularly in the Bahragora block, which borders both West Bengal and Odisha. “This checking campaign is being conducted in accordance with the guidelines set by the Election Commission,” stated a police official. Vehicles entering Jharkhand will be inspected for cash, jewellery, firearms, and necessary vehicle documentation.

These heightened security measures reflect the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order during the elections, aiming to reassure the public of their diligence in upholding a transparent electoral environment. Police are urging citizens to cooperate with the checks and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful and fair election process.
