Police gets tough on eve teasing and loot at picnic spots

Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur police claim that security will be beefed up in and around the city on the occasion of New Year celebrations. Extra forces will be deployed on picnic spots, restaurants, parks, malls and in the cinema halls so that people can welcome the New Year 2014 peacefully.

Police have made special arrangements so that no nuisance could be created by the antisocial elements on the picnic spots. “We have deployed static force on the picnic spots to prevent instance of eve teasing and loot, besides extra patrolling parties on the roads,” SSP Amol V Homkar said.

All the picnic spots will have proper security arrangements on the New Year. “Proper arrangements have been made so that no picnic spot remain untouched by the police during the season,” said a police
official. He also added that to tackle eve-teasers, policemen in plain clothes will also be deployed to keep a close eye on them.

As number of accidents increase during the season, police have warned people through advertisements in Television and Newspapers that rash driving will not be tolerated on the roads and will be punished if found to be breaking any law. Police party will patrol on the roads during the season. “We cannot do much about the traffic but drunken\ drivers will definitely be booked by our men,” said a police official.

Talking about the problem of drunken drivers, he also warned people that they should drive carefully as people will be on high during the celebrations. “Drinking and driving should not be mixed,” said RM Sinha traffic DSP.

Patrolling teams will also include women constables. The idea is to prevent eve-teasing cases and ensure that nobody is able to forcibly enter picnic spots and party venues. Ladies constables will also be deployed in some of the sensitive areas marked by the police to tackle with the eve teasers. They have been instructed to take action immediately if any instance of eve teasing found around them.

“We are dedicated to provide peaceful atmosphere to the people for New Year\ celebrations and we are doing our best for that,” the he said.

“During this season eve-teasing cases register an increase at the picnic spots so the district women cell of the police has planned to work in coordination with the respective local police stations to prevent incidents of eve-teasing in the picnic spots,” said an official of the district women’s cell.

He said that they had convened a special meeting of the police officers assigned for carrying out the checking of arms or helmet in the city, and has categorically briefed them that whoever is using a
Press or Police sticker must show a valid I-card.

“In the event of anyone fails to produce valid I-card, then the police officer concerned will immediately strip the sticker off the vehicle and subsequently prosecute the person for cheating the
police,” said the official.
