Jamshedpur, Dec 21: The district police have asked the city based hotels to put in place adequate safeguards to prevent any untoward incident in the hotels.
In an apparent advisory ahead of the beginning of the New Year celebrations, the police have asked the hotel industry to be a partner in addressing the safety and security issues confronting the denizens on a greater proportion at present, relatively.
The cops have asked the hoteliers to install close circuit television (CCTV) camera inside and outside the hotel premises and make sure the belongings of the visitors are thoroughly checked at the time of entry and exit.
The hoteliers have also been asked to keep updated entries of the visitors in the log book and ensure transparency in the day-to-day business.
Along with the highquality electronic monitoring system the hotels should also install metal detecting
devices at the entry points to check entry of suspected elements.
“Police administration and hoteliers association should be partner in checking the crime graph of the city and in this context I would say the maximum they practice transparency the greater is the benefit,” said Superintendent of Police, City, Karthik S.
The police had to seek support of the hoteliers during the year-end period is precisely because the hotels here witness heightened celebrations on new year eve beginning from Christmas.
“We are prepared to extend fulsome support to the police provided the hoteliers are not pulled up on every single day on petty issues,” said Jamshedpur Hoteliers Association (JHA), president, Prabhakar Singh.
Alluding to the support the hotel industry is extending to the police at present, sources in the hotel industry have informed that they have already put into practice of not receiving orders beyond 10.30 at night.
“From the safety point of view we have decided to restrict ourselves to the 10.30 deadline as far as entertaining late evening booking orders is concerned,” said an owner of a Bistupur based star hotel.
The hotelier also added that at times police response was uninspiring when complained about unlawful incident/mishap at the hotel premises.
Police sources have informed that the exercise to take on board the hoteliers on the security issue stems from the recent development in Ranchi where police recovered explosives from a particular hotel and arrested suspected terrorists.
