Jamshedpur: The police busted a gang of burglars by arresting three persons and recovering an auto-rickshaw used in burglaries. The police also recovered a loaded pistol.
The police officials informed that the gang is led by Taraknath Layak, a 29-year old youth who lived at Bhatia Bustee in Kadma. They used to target residential and commercial area in the city by the auto-rickshaw past midnight and would commit burglary. The other two arrested persons were identified as Mohit Singh and Paresh Kumar, both residents of Shastrinagar, Kadma.
Superintendent of police (city) Karthik S said that on Wednesday they arrested two youths, Mohit and Taraknath, with a loaded pistol near the marine drive along Kadma police station area.
The same gang had decamped with gold ornaments and brand new truck tyres from the house of transporter Bipin Channa at Ranikudar under Kadma police station area in the night of August 26.
Karthik said during interrogation, they found it was the same gang which had committed burglary at Dulhan Jewers located in Birsanagar Zone No 11 in the night of August 13. The criminals had decamped with gold ornaments worth over Rs 3.75 lakh and also had taken away a vault weighing over 0.5 ton from the jewellery shop.
Officials said that constables on foot would be deployed in a stretch of every one km for patrolling. Several other constables would be deployed for the purpose, besides patrolling by the local police.
“Burglaries have increased during the winter as many families are away on vacation. Now that the election process is over, the manpower position is back to normality. Specially constituted patrolling squads have already been deployed under the limits of the Mango and Sakchi,” said police official
He, however, stressed upon developing intelligence gathering machinaries and intensifying patrolling around midnight.
In the past one week, at least seven cases of burglary have been reported in the city and the suburbs. Most of the incidents happened in posh areas of Mango and Sakchi.
