Police arrest former BJP MLA�s wife in fake currency case in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa

Jamshedpur, Oct 13: Police arrested a 35-year-old woman and sent her to jail after they recovered fake currency notes of Rs 30.500 at her house in Chaibasa Muffasil police station area in West Singhbhum district late last night.

The arrested woman identified as Malaya Hembram is wife of former BJP MLA Putkal Hembram and resident of Gaushala Road in Chaibasa Muffasil thana area.

According to information, the accused had on Monday evening while shopping at a shop gave a Rs 2,000 currency note to the shop-keeper while paying the bill.  The shop-keeper, Jayanti Devgam, looked at the currency note and refused to take it as it appeared to be fake.

When she refused, the accused got furious and had a brawl with the shop-keeper that led several others to gather at the scene.  The fight turned ugly, leading the two women to indulge in fighting in the marketplace.  Meanwhile, someone informed the police, leading a police party to reach the spot and searched Malaya’s bag.  They found another  note of 2,000 denomination, apparently the same as the accused had tried to give to the shopkeeper.  Soon afterward the police had taken Malaya into custody and started investigation.

In the night, a joint team of Chaibasa Muffasil thana and Chaibasa Mahila thana raided the house of the accused and recovered 13 more notes of 2,000 denomination and a note of Rs 500. On inspecting and getting through verified bank employees, the police found all the currency notes they had recovered from were found to be fake.

OC, Chaibasa Muffasil thana, Ashutosh Kumar said during the investigation they found Malaya Hembram to be a part of a gang of fake currency racketeers.
