Jamshedpur: The police have arrested five accused involved in rape of a 16 year old girl, who jumped into river Kharkai at Adtiyapur. On June 17, the victim of a gang-rape girl ran to save herself, but got swept away in the river and died due to drowning. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Arshi said they have arrested five youths accused of raping a teenager.
The names of those arrested are Ajay Pramanik, Durga Mahato, Abhijeet Singh alias Bantu Singh, Rohit Lohar, Arjun Lohar. Sushma Kumari, police station in-charge Adityapur, Krishna Murari, police station in-charge Gamharia, sub-inspector Rishav Akash Sahi and Vishwajit Kumar were among the special team of police investigating the case.
SP said that the teenager from Adityapur police station area went missing on June 17. On June 20, her body was recovered from the Kharkai River. The girl’s clothes and slippers were recovered by the police on 18 June from a school in Saldih Basti of Adityapur police station area. Presenting the accused, the Superintendent of Police informed that a special team was formed to probe the case. During the investigation, it was learned that the teenager used to visit her maternal grandfather’s house. On 17 June, accused Rohit Lohar, Durga Mahato, Abhijeet Singh alias Bantu Singh were sitting in New Primary School, Saldih. The teenager was returning from her maternal grandfather’s house at around eleven thirty. She stopped at Saldih School to avoid raining. The three accused took off her clothes and threw them on the roof and started raping her.
