Ghatsila, April 15: On the occasion of Poila Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, people queued up at various temples in Ghatshila o seek blessings of peace and joy. People put on new clothes and offered prayers at temples. The Bengali community, among other specialties, is known for its affinity to good food and so varieties of special recipes were cooked at all homes. Sweetmeat sellers had a field day as various sweets varieties vanished from the showcases within no time.
The agonizing heat did partially muddle the Bengali zest but joy has no barriers and that could be observed with the excitement of celebration in their countenances.

Ghatshila’s social organization, ‘Jhum Ek Lehar’, made arrangements for cold drinking water and temporary sheds and chairs for people to take a break from the summer sweat. The ‘Jhum Ek Lahar’ provided cold water and covered shelters for rest at a camp the team set up near the Rankini Mandir. The camp was coordinated by the organization’s Secretary Amlan Roy. The social organization’s members including A Patar, Ajit Singh, Vimal Singh, Ashok Seet and others welcomed people to the tent and greeted them on the occasion of Poila Boishakh.
