Jamshedpur: In a significant initiative aimed at empowering artisans and workers across the nation, the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is set to be launched on September 17, spanning 70 locations throughout India, including the East Singhbhum district. The event, scheduled to take place at the Town Hall in Sidhgora, will witness the honorable presence of Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan.
The preparations for this momentous program have been diligently underway, as evidenced by a meeting convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar at the Collectorate Auditorium in Jamshedpur. The meeting brought together key officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Jaideep Tigga, General Manager of District Industries Centre Shiv Kumar, DCLR Ravindra Gagrai, District Information and Science Officer Kishore Prasad, and the LDM, among others. During the meeting, instructions were issued to ensure the active participation of craftsmen from all the blocks within the district in the upcoming program.
The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, an ambitious initiative by the Central Government, is slated for launch on September 17 with the primary objective of promoting and supporting artisans and workers. Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the scheme at the India International Convention and Expo Centre in Dwarka, Delhi.
Under this scheme, beneficiaries will receive a toolkit incentive of Rs 15,000 each, provided through e-vouchers or eRUPI, in addition to collateral-free business development loans at concessional interest rates. Furthermore, artisans will be entitled to an incentive of Re 1 per transaction, capped at 100 transactions each month.
Loan Support: The scheme offers a first-phase loan of up to Rs 1 lakh for initiating or expanding businesses, with a maximum interest rate of 5 percent. In the second phase, eligible workers can access concessional loans of up to Rs 2 lakh.
Eligible Workers: The scheme extends benefits to a diverse range of workers, including blacksmiths, potters, masons, washermen, flower workers, fish net weavers, lock-key makers, sculptors, and workers from various other sectors.
Additional Support: Workers and artisans will also receive PM Vishwakarma certificates and identity cards, along with an assistance grant of Rs 15,000 for acquiring modern equipment.
The government has allocated Rs 13,000 crore under this scheme for a five-year period. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to qualify. Only one member per family is eligible for the scheme. Applicants are required to submit a self-declaration form as part of the application process.
