PM Narendra Modi Lands in Assam, To Inaugurate Key Infrastructure Projects and IIM Guwahati

Guwahati (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday landed at the Chabua airfield in Dibrugarh district to begin his one-day tour of Assam, marking a day packed with infrastructure, education, and public transport initiatives.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh district — the first such facility in the Northeast. The ELF is expected to strengthen emergency response capabilities, enabling swift deployment of rescue and relief operations during challenging situations.

At around 1 p.m., Modi will inaugurate a much-awaited bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting Guwahati with North Guwahati. The bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and enhance connectivity between the northern and southern banks of the river.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the temporary campus of the Indian Institute of Management Guwahati at Bongora. The establishment of IIM Guwahati is being viewed as a major boost to higher education in the Northeast, aimed at nurturing management talent and promoting regional development. The institute is expected to attract students from across the country, further strengthening Assam’s position as an emerging education hub.

In a key step toward sustainable urban mobility, Modi will flag off 100 additional electric buses for Guwahati. The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen public transport infrastructure while reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality in the city.

Ahead of the visit, the Prime Minister said in a post on X that he would land at the ELF on the Moran Bypass at 10.30 a.m., describing it as a milestone for the Northeast. Calling it a moment of “immense joy,” he highlighted that the inauguration of IIM Guwahati would further strengthen the region’s educational infrastructure.

Later in the day, Modi is scheduled to address party workers in Guwahati. Referring to the mandate given to the BJP-NDA alliance a decade ago, he said the government in Assam has worked tirelessly to fulfil the aspirations of the people. Expressing confidence ahead of the upcoming elections, he said he was hopeful that the people of Assam would once again bless the BJP-NDA alliance.
