Kolkata (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives in Kolkata this Saturday afternoon to headline a massive rally at the Brigade Parade Ground. The event marks the official conclusion of the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Yatra’ as the state gears up for crucial Assembly elections later this year.
A Dual-Purpose Visit
The Prime Minister’s itinerary features two distinct segments hosted on adjacent platforms:
-
Administrative Milestone: From the first dais, PM Modi will virtually lay the foundation stones for several Central Government projects across West Bengal.
-
Political Keynote: Following the administrative session, the PM will move to the main stage to deliver a high-stakes political speech to supporters.
Kolkata Becomes a Fortress
Authorities have wrapped central Kolkata in a multi-layered security blanket. The Kolkata Police confirmed that 3,000 personnel are securing the rally ground alone.
-
No-Fly Zone: Officials have declared the Brigade Parade Ground and surrounding areas a “No-Fly Zone,” strictly banning drones.
-
High-Rise Surveillance: Security teams are stationed on the rooftops of nearby skyscrapers to monitor all movement.
-
Command Structure: Deputy Commissioners are managing specific security zones, all overseen by a Joint Commissioner and Additional Commissioners of Police.
A Battle of Posters
The city’s streets have turned into a visual battlefield ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival. While the BJP has decorated Kolkata with massive cutouts of PM Modi and rally banners, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched a counter-campaign.
Since Friday night, TMC supporters have flooded the Prime Minister’s expected convoy routes with posters demanding unpaid central dues and “Go Back” messages.
