Jamshedpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday opted for a road journey to Jamshedpur from Jharkhand capital Ranchi after adverse weather conditions prevented his helicopter from taking off.
The PM will address the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Maharally’ at Jamshedpur’s Gopal Maidan, a key event ahead of this year’s elections for the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
“The prime minister is traveling to Jamshedpur by road to deliver a rally speech at Gopal Maidan,” an official stated.
The journey covers approximately 130 kilometers from Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi to Jamshedpur’s Gopal Maidan.
This visit is politically significant for the Kolhan region, which includes the districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela Kharsawan.
The region, a priority for the BJP, has 14 assembly seats, nine of which are tribal-majority constituencies. In the 2019 assembly elections, the BJP was unable to secure a victory in any of these nine tribal seats.
Modi’s visit is also seen as crucial due to the influence of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, who hails from this region. Soren, who recently joined the BJP, has a notable following in the area.
