Gamharia, Jan 2: Sokhen Hembram, Mukhiya of Burudih panchayat of Gamharia, received Krishi Karman award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his outstanding contribution in paddy production at a function organized in Bengaluru on Thursday. The PM gave a letter of appreciation to Hembram and also gave a cheque of Rs 2 crore to the agriculture department of Jharkhand government.
Out of the award amount, Sokhen Hembram and Kranti Devi, a farmer from Gumla, would be given Rs 50 lakh each. Hembram is also the president of Kisan Salahkar Samiti (Farmers Advisory Committee).
Many farmers attended the event. Jharkhand had performed well in paddy production in the year 2016-17.
