Jharkhand govt to contribute Rs 56 cr, varsity to come up in 2 years
Jamshedpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday laid the foundation stone of Jamshedpur Women’s University online from Srinagar around 4.25 pm. A foundation laying ceremony was held on the premises of Jamshedpur Women’s College, Bistupur, in the presence of Chief Minister Raghubar Das and other dignitaries.
The PM laid the foundation stone from Sher-e-Kashmir Convention Centre in Srinagar. He interacted with students from various states and took questions on agriculture, tourism, poverty, education and the use of technology.
Replying to a question raised by a student from Hyderabad seeking to know if the Prime Minister was satisfied with the higher education scenario in the country, the PM said, “I am satisfied that we are progressing with our targets on higher education as per the time table. My dream is to make a scenario where foreign students will come to India to pursue their higher studies. Such should be our global standards.”
As per plan, the Women�s University will have its second campus beside Surya Mandir in Sidhgora on an 18 acre land.
The online foundation stone laying of Jamshedpur Women’s University took place along with other projects which include setting up of 66 entrepreneurship and incubation centres; 54 new model degree colleges, 11 professional colleges worth Rs 3300 crores as a part of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), second phase.
The CM addressed a gathering at the indoor stadium of the college. He congratulated JWC on being upgraded to a university now and motivated young girls to study and gain expertise in their respective fields.
“It is a historic moment, Jharkhand will get a women�s university after more than 70 years of Independence. Under RUSA, the state will help with Rs 56 crore while the Centre will contribute Rs 33 crore for the university that would come up in Sidhgora with its second campus,” said Das.
Das said the university building construction will begin this month and get over in two years. He said girls and women were bringing laurels to their families, alma mater and the country in various fields. The government is doing every bit to hone their talent and promote them wherever possible, he said.
Das said the Mukhyamantri Sukanya Yojana was launched on the occasion of National Girl Child Day on 24th January last with the view to save the girl child and promote girl child education. He said five new government universities had been started in Jharkhand in the last four years. With Jamshedpur Women�s University, the total number of government universities in the state will be 10, he said.
The CM said Jharkhand had made progress in the field of higher education with the state government giving approval for opening 12 model degree colleges, 31 degree colleges and appointment of 871 staff in 30 new colleges.
Also present on the occasion were Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahato, state HRD Secretary Rajesh Kumar Sharma, RUSA Director Dinesh Prasad, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar, SSP Anoop Birtharay, Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University Shukla Mahanty and other officials of Kolhan University. The live streaming was arranged both inside and outside the indoor stadium.
