Playoff spot first challenge for new Jamshedpur FC coach

Jamshedpur, July 26: Jamshedpur Football Club (JFC) has signed Spain’s Antonio Iriondo as the Head Coach for the Indian Super league (ISL) season 2019-20. This was informed by Jamshedpur FC CEO Mukul Choudhari during a press meet held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Friday. Jamshedpur FC’s new coach Antonio Iriondo, Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) Chanakya Choudhary, Chief Aviation and Sports Tata Steel Ravi Radhakrishnan, Sports Department Head Ashish Kumar and officials of Jamshedpur FC were present.

Long coaching experience

The Spaniard joins JFC after managing various clubs in Spain�s La Liga, Segunda Division and Segunda B in a 27-year-long career. The 65-year-old comes with a massive reputation of having managed 985 games during his entire career that commenced in 1992. Hopes are high that under this experienced gaffer Jamshedpur FC will break the shackles of also rans and climb higher rungs.  It may be noted that during its first two seasons Jamshedpur FC had to remain content with the fifth spot thereby missing out on opportunities for a go in the play offs.

Playoff first challenge

During its maiden stint in the league, Jamshedpur FC was groomed by the then Head Coach, Englishmen Steve Coppell  while the last season saw Spaniard Cesar Ferrando taking on the mantel of the Tata Steel owned franchisee. The results however were the same with Jamshedpur FC ending up at the fifth position. Now with the new coach taking over, the primary motive will be to make it to the play off stage.
