Plans to hike electricity tariff in Jharkhand from May 1

Ranchi, April 20: People of Jharkhand may soon have to pay more money for electricity.

The State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) is going to announce the new electricity rate by April 30. Electricity rates may increase by up to Rs 1 per unit from May.

According to sources, the draft of the electricity tariff is ready and is in the final stage. The commission wants it to be implemented from May 1. Jharkhand Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited is also waiting for this tariff.

At present, the electricity rate for domestic consumers is Rs 6.65 per unit. According to the proposal, it can be made Rs 8.65 per unit. At the same time, there is a proposal to increase the fixed charge from Rs 100 to Rs 200 per month. There was no change in electricity rates last year. This time JBVNL had proposed to increase the price by Rs 2 per unit, but the commission has prepared for an increase of 50 paise to Rs 1.

Public hearing on this proposal has been done in March and the reply to the objections received has been submitted to the JBVNL commission. Now only the announcement is left.
