Jamshedpur, April 17: If you are planning a trip to a hill station during this summer vacation, you should have your train reservations done at the earliest otherwise you will get a waiting list ticket.
As the summer vacations start in the first week of May, trains run chock-a-block with no other options left to get confirmed ticket. As railways these days has introduced ticket booking 120 days in advance before the departure of the train, some people book their tickets well in advance to avoid the last minute rush.
Several trains running to Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Haridwar, Jammu and Himachal Pradesh are already in waiting list.
Staffs at the Tatanagar reservation counter said, the trains running to these routes especially in the month of May and June are in waiting list.
There is higher demand for trains running towards New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and South India. The current waiting list in these trains is below 100 and reservation is being done at a brisk pace.
SPS Rao, Commissioner of railway safety (CRS), Tatanagar, said that in the recent past craze for booking in Duronto and Rajdhani Express has increased and for the upcoming summer vacations people are preferring Rajdhani and Duronto Express. Usually, passengers at first prefer to book tickets in AC coach.
Railways have started adding extra coaches to trains keeping in mind the rush during summers. A railway official said that extra coaches will be added to trains according to the waiting list in trains.
“Booking in trains for the summer vacations has speed up and trains running especially towards hilly areas and metro cities are experiencing waiting list and it would increase in April end and May first week,” said SPS Rao, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Tatanagar.
Tatanagar railway officials have sent applications to South Eastern Railway (SER) to start summer special trains keeping in mind the rush during the summer vacations. Chakradharpur Railway Division officials have also recommended starting of summer special trains.
A meeting has been scheduled at Garden Reach, the Kolkata-based headquarters of SER, in April end where special trains and the routes will be announced.
“Like every year, this year too additional coaches will be provided in long distance trains depending on long reservation list. The rush for ticket bookings for travel during the summer vacation has already gained momentum.
Extra coaches will help to ease the rush,” said a public relations officer at Garden Reach.
Some of the trains which will get additional coaches are Howrah-Ahmedabad Express, Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express, Puri-New Delhi Puroshottam Superfast Express, Howrah-LTT Jnaneshwari Express and Tata-Amritsar Jalianwala Bagh Express.
