Plan of dacoity at jewelry shop foiled, five arrested

Jamshedepur: Five members of an inter-state gang were arrested with arms while they were on their way to commit dacoity on the premises of a reputed jeweller at Bistupur, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off that an inter-state gang had planned to commit dacoity in Bistupur police station area, a special police team was formed on the directive of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amol Venukant Homkar to foil the plan, said SP (city) Kartik S.

Kartik said the team launched a search operation in the Garabasa locality and intercepted a four-wheeler (Bolero) bearing registration number of Orissa last night, which was also confiscated.

Following a search, police has recovered four pistols including one 7.65 mm automatic pistol, 9 live cartridges and six mobile phones from their possession.

All the five members, who were travelling in the four-wheeler, have been arrested, Karthik said adding that the kingpin of the gang, Amit Shah alias Keshri Gupta, a resident of Hedbarda village under Barlanga police station of Ramgarh district, was accused in 24 cases including murder, dacoity, loot and arms act and wanted in many other cases.

The arrested persons were on their way to execute the plan and commit dacoity in the jeweller’s premises last night, where they expected to extract cash and ornaments worth in crores, Karthik said.
