Jamshedpur, Oct 15: The main road between Parsudih and Sarjamda has been witnessing the wastage of thousands of litres of water for the past two days due to a damaged valve of a water pipe near Dayal Tower. The water has been overflowing onto the road causing several inconveniences including to local shopkeepers and residents. The incessant water flow from the damaged pipeline has raised concerns about accident possibilities due to the overflowing water accumulating in potholes on the road. The unchecked water flow has also resulted in low pressure in the supply line due to which residents have been facing inadequate water supply problems. Even thorough-farers along this Parsudih-Sarjamda road are finding it difficult to ‘navigate’ their way to their respective destinations. Local residents are a frustrated lot and have accused the authorities concerned for turning a Nelson’s eye to the perennial problem of road damage due to accumulation or unchecked flow of water.
This is not the first instance of water pipes in Parsudih being damaged and the disconcerting after effects of such damages. On previous occasions too, water supply pipelines had burst, resulting in the wastage of water. Zila Parishad President Pankaj Sinha stated that the Public Health Department had been instructed to repair damaged pipes before the Durga Puja festival. The Executive Engineer had also been informed about the matter, and any disruptions in water supply in the locality were being closely monitored. “The damaged pipe will be repaired, and efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted water supply,” informed Sinha.
The water supply in Parsudih area is part of the Govindpur Water Supply Scheme. The residents including Bali Murmu and Shobha Soy said that every drop of water meant a source of life to the people. “There have been occasions when we have been hit by water crisis. We have had to purchase water to meet the daily family requirements,” said Bali Murmu. “The negligence of the Public Health Department in maintaining the water supply pipelines has led to the wastage of thousands of litres of water, and despite the currently prevailing issue, the relevant department has remained oblivious to our problems which is exasperating and distressing,” stated an agitated Shobha Soy.
