Jamshedpur: A physiotherapy technician at Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) Hospital in Jadugoda sustained serious burn injuries on Tuesday. Considering his situation, the hospital management rushed him to Tata Main Hospital’s burn care unit for treatment.
Vinod Kumar Dwivedi (46) who is an employee of Uranium Corporation of India Limited and posted as its hospital has sustained burns in the face and neck. The mishap took place at about 11.20 am while Dwivedi was preparing an arthritis patient to undergo wax-bath, which is a part of the physiotherapy.
The hospital sources however claimed that the condition of the mishap victim is out of danger and that his has partially boiled in the boiling wax.
According the hospital sources, the mishap took place when Dwivedi was to prepare molten paraffin wax in an electrified container. As he switched the container on he also moved away from the physiotherapy chamber keeping the container.
” It could have been a major mishap but the situation got controlled. As per the information, a nurse came in and having found the paraffin wax over-heated and boiling, she switched it off.
Subsequently, the nurse informed Dwivedi about the over-boiling wax, prompting the latter to came back to the physiotherapy chamber and switch it on again. And immediately after he removed the cover of the container, the over-boiling wax erupted violently and hit the victim’s face his neck was over the container,” said the sources.
Chief medical officer, UCIL Hospital, Uttam Kumar Majhi of Jadugoda confirmed about the incident. ” We are investigating the mishap. As per initial study it happened due to a sheer negligence of Vinod Dwivedi who is a physiotherapy technician at our hospital. We was immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital’s burn care unit after preliminary treatment at the UCIL Hospital,” said Majhi adding that the condition of the mishap victim is out of danger.
As a result of the mishap there was a chaos at the UCIL Hospital premises. “We were shocked to hear noise of the victim reeling in pain. The situation could have gone out of control as beside the physiotherapy unit at the UCIL hospital is a children ward.
As soon as the mishap took place, panic gripped the parents of the ailing children admitted there. Some of the parents had even run away from the children ward picking up their sick children. But they returned to the ward after the situation was handled by the doctors and security staff,” said one of the hospital staff said.
