A social media campaign ran recently to award Ratan Tata with ‘Bharat Ratna’ was not wrong in itself. But the gem of the country hardly bothers about recieving Bharat Ratna or any other award. They are already the heroes of the country. You may call him the hero among the heroes. When the demand to award Ratan Tata with Bharat Ratna escalated then Ratan Tata intervened and said that ‘they respect the emotions of their admirers but such a campaign should be stopped’. I am proud to be Indian and feel blessed to be able to contribute in the growth and prosperity of India. It is evident that such a statement can only be delivered by a person on peak. A person with an average personality will never take stand like Ratan Tata. It is known to all that many of the white collared celebrities do desperate lobbying and compromises upto great extent. After the death of legend of Tata group J. R. D. Tata in 1993 Ratan Tata gave an exemplary and magnificent leadership to the Tata group from salt to steel and cars to trucks and also in IT sector in recent years. Ratan Tata is believed to be among most respected corporate leaders. After the demise of J. R. D. Tata there were doubts and expectations that whether Ratan Tata will be able to provide supreme leadership to the Tata group like J. R. D Tata did? These doubts were rightful as the personality of J. R. D. Tata was very huge. But he should be admired as he proved himself. Let’s admit that the prime motive of every business venture is to maximise profit.
There is nothing wrong in it. But Tata group goals to contribute in building the country and to serve the mankind with social philanthropy along with making money . Atleast on this point none of the Indian business group match the Tata group. That’s why the entire country respect the Tata group because only profit making is not their goal. Now Ratan Tata is not the chairman of Tata group. He gave his post to the chairman of Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) Mr. N. Chandrashekharan. He is an expert in identifying the talent. He deploys the right personnel at the right place. In return he gets the unprecedented results. While assigning N. Chandrashekharan with this big responsibility Ratan Tata did not bother about the fact that he has not studied in any renowned school or college. Ratan Tata only noticed that TCS is excelling under the leadership of Chandrashekharan. So first time in history he made a non Parsi and non member of Tata family the chairman of Tata group. This kind of decision can only be taken by a far-sighted person.
Chandrashekharan did his schooling in mother tongue Tamil. Recieved his engineering degree from Regional Engineering college(REC), Trichi. Assumption of chairman post by Chandrashekharan gave a clear message that even the student who does his schooling in Tamil or any other Indian language can reach the top positions of corporate sector. He can touch the sky. If today the world recognises India among the important powers in Information Technology sector and the IT sector of India has reached 190 billion then for this achievement some credit should also be given to Ratan Tata . Ratan Tata has an incredible trait that he does not intervene in the works of CEO of a company. They are given full freedom to grow the companies with their intelligence and discretion. He gave his company CEOs freedom to work. However he explicate them. Along with this he keeps on advising his employees time to time. Under these positive circumstances the companies of his group prosper and grow more in comparison to others.
One can say that Ratan Tata was also having gods grace like that of J. R. D. Tata which help them to pick and include the best managers in the group. That’s why N. Chandrashekharan(TCS), Ajit Kerkar(Hotel Taj), Nani Palkhivala (ACC cement), Rusi Modi(Tata steel) etc. collaborated with Tata group. They were big brands in itself. If Ratan Tata did not have the farsightedness of promoter and had he not believed his promoter then he would not have the success what he achieved. Tata states his vision to his CEOs. Then it is the work of CEOs to abide by the vision and take it to another level.
