Jamshedpur, June 23: In view of spate of crime like chain-snatching, eve-teasing, arms or drugs peddling, bike lifting the police administration has decided that different units of police – quick reaction team (QRT), city patrolling units and mobile tiger (cops on bikes) will function under the police control room.
Superintendent of police (city) Prashant Anand said that the steps are being taken to increase vigil and ensure vigilant patrolling. Various units of the police to function under the police control room.
“We have decided that the police stations will be kept away from the responsibility of regular patrolling job.
The patrolling part will be done by the cops called tiger mobile and the cops who patrol the streets on SUVs.
In case of any major emergency, QRT party and also cops posted in the police station concerned will join in,” said the superintendent of police.
Prashant said that new arrangement has been introduced after instruction of senior superintendent of police Anoop T Mathew.
“Before this, the city patrolling and the cops on bike called Tiger Mobile would function under thanas, but from today they have started working under the police control room at Sakchi.
A police officer in the rank of deputy superintendent of police will monitor the movement of these two units,” said the city SP.
Elaborating on the system, the senior police officer said that they wanted to develop a controlled policing in the city.
“Our idea is to ensure that the streets are crime free. We will focus on drug-trafficking and gambling which are the main causes behind incidents of snatching in the city,” he stated.
He said that the Tiger Mobile cops as well as the patrolling car will concentrate on the places where drugs and illicit liquor are consumed while at the same time will carry our surprise checking of the suspected criminals moving either on sports bike or in tinted car,” said the senior police officer.
Apart from focusing on snatchers the mobile cops will also pay special attention at the commercial banks.
Moreover, women cops will keep an eye on eve teasing at strategic places across the steel city.
The teams will work in tandem with tiger mobile jawans and officer in-charge of local police stations.
Police sources said 35 women constables will be on duty at strategic locations like Nicco Park, Jubilee Park, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Hudco Dam, Dimna Lake, Mody Park Sakchi Aam Bagan Maidan and Sakchi turnaround.
There will be four women constables in separate teams which have already started the job.
Several cases like these have become common in the city. However the police look serious to curb the menace.
