Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee is planning to intensify its ongoing campaign against the banned polythene bags across the city.
Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC, said the flying squads and Swachhata squads had been directed to initiate stringent and exemplary measures against those found in possession of the banned polythene. Even shoppers will not be spared if they are found using polythene bags. Fine will be levied on them at the rate of Rs 200 per polythene bag, said Kumar.
According to Kumar, using polythene bags had become a part of the citizens daily routine. As a result of daily habits, people found it difficult to give up using polythenes, he said.
Initially, it would be difficult for many people, but quitting the use of polythene would be a great step ahead towards building a safer environment for the future generations. Six states of the country have become polythene free so far. This was made possible due to the strong determination of the citizens and their coordination with the government, said the Special Officer.
In order to motivate people to quit using polythenes, the JNAC has planned to reward those using cloth bags. Sending a selfie with cloth bag may make the citizens eligible for a prize, said Kumar.
A lucky draw will be organized to give attractive prizes to five such people sending selfie to us. The winners will also be given a letter of appreciation each on World Environment Day, said Kumar.
