Ranchi: Intelligence agencies made a headway into the Patna serial blasts investigation as they succeeded in arresting one Shamsher Ansari from Bhadaninagar police station area of Ramgarh district.
Sources said the accused was nabbed on the basis of mobile surveillance following strong apprehensions of his links with the terrorist organization Indian Mujahidin.
Police officials however refused to divulge any details about findings so far related to the terrorist links of Shamsher and his role in the Patna blasts.
Police and Intelligence Bureau teams are interrogating the accused in connection with the blasts. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths will also be interrogating the accused to get leads into the blasts.
Sources said the cops nabbed Shamsher from his house in Ramgarh on the basis of a tip-off from IB.
The people of Mahuatoli village are shocked after the revelation of alleged involvement of Shamsher in terrorist activities. His kin have claimed that he is innocent, sources said.
In view of the ongoing investigation into Patna blasts, the NIA and IB sleuths today held a meeting at the police headquarters and monitored the progress of probe.
Ways to prevent terrorist activities were also discussed during the meeting. The additional director general of police of the Special Branch Rezi Dungdung was also present durng the meeting along with the senior officials of NIA and IB. Issues related to internal security in view of the recent terrorist incident were discussed during the meeting.
Sources said the intelligence officials are in touch with Bihar police and are conducting joint investigation with the Jharkhand-Bihar police to find leads into the Patna blasts.
Meanwhile, Ranchi police today conducted a search in the house of one Numan in Sithio village under Dhurwa police station on the basis of intelligence inputs.
Intelligence agencies also visited Iram Lodge at Hindpidhi where police had recovered nine time bombs. Cops are also running search in other parts of the state.
The additional DGP of Jharkhand SN Pradhan said the terrorists were using Jharkhand for shelter. He said a concrete strategy would be formulated to counter terrorist plans.
