Patient’s death sparks uproar at Jamshedpur Hospital, family alleges negligence

Jamshedpur: Tensions ran high at the MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur after the unfortunate demise of a 24-year-old liver failure patient, Kapil Singh, hailing from Birsanagar, No. 5. The incident, which transpired on Tuesday, led to a commotion within the hospital premises as Kapil’s sister, Usha Nayak, and her companions raised allegations of medical negligence against the attending doctors.

According to Usha Nayak, Kapil’s health took a sudden turn for the worse around 6:30 PM, prompting his immediate admission to MGM Hospital. He was rushed to the emergency ward, but the family claims that the treatment provided was substandard and inadequate. Despite multiple pleas to the doctor on duty, no proactive measures were taken to address Kapil’s deteriorating condition, ultimately leading to his tragic passing the following morning.

The incident is sadly not an isolated one at MGM Hospital, which is known as one of Kolhan’s largest government healthcare facilities. Following such incidents, it has become somewhat customary for bereaved family members to express their grievances vociferously, alleging lapses in patient care. However, in this case, the situation was eventually pacified after the hospital superintendent provided clarification.

The hospital’s superintendent has issued a statement explaining the circumstances surrounding Kapil Singh’s demise. According to the superintendent, the young patient had a history of alcohol addiction, which had severely impacted his liver and kidney health. Related medications were administered in an attempt to treat the ailment, but unfortunately, his condition could not be reversed, and he succumbed to the illness. Regarding the uproar and allegations of negligence, the superintendent remarked that such incidents often arise due to a lack of understanding among family members regarding the patient’s medical condition and treatment.

While the incident has been emotionally charged, it highlights the need for improved communication and transparency between medical practitioners and patients’ families during critical medical situations, in order to avoid misunderstandings and disputes.
