Jamshedpur : In protest against death of patient over hundreds of angry residents staged a protest and later ransacked the Rajasthan Seva Sadan, a local hospital at Jugsalai on Friday.
The management of the nursing home later agreed to pay compensation to the kin of the patient , who died of negligence. The dispute was settled after the nursing-home management announced to pay Rs 3.20 lakh as compensation.
Forty -year-old patient Satya Narayan Yadav was admitted to the nursing home on Thursday with complaints of stomach pain. The patient was administered saline water till 11 pm following which his pain in the stomach was increased.
Immediately the patient’s wife, Malti Devi (35), contacted the doctor and nurse for attending the patient, but despite repeated attempts, neither any doctor nor any nurse turned up to see the patient. The pain was so severe that the patient fell down from the bed and died.
Officer-in-charge, Jugsalai Ashok Giri informed that a group of residents from Kitadih had ransacked at the Rajasthan Seva Sadan after the death of a patient due to lack of proper treatment.
” During initial investigation we found irresponsibility on the part of the nursing-home management. After taking the statement of the victim’s wife and nursing-home management we forced the nursing-home management to pay adequate compensation to the bereaved family,” said Giri.
The protest began at about 10 am and continued for one hour.
When the protest was on, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s district secretary Ramesh Hansda, and Congress activist Anand Behari Dubey had also lend support to the protestors and forced the management to settle the issue by giving necessary compensation.
