Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy emphasized the importance of passion, hard work, and skill in achieving success in sports while felicitating the winning team of the 26th Junior Basketball Championship.
Highlighting Jamshedpur’s growing reputation in basketball at both state and national levels, Roy expressed satisfaction over the achievements of local players. He remarked that success in sports was inevitable when dedication, hard work and skill came together. He further noted that even a player of average height could outperform a taller opponent through superior technique and ability, underlining the importance of skill development.
Roy also stressed the role of discipline in shaping athletes, stating that it was discipline that transformed young individuals into accomplished sportspersons. He encouraged players to maintain faith in their coaches and adhere to their guidance.
The 26th Junior Basketball Championship was held in Sahibganj from March 29 to April 1, 2026, where teams sent by the Jharkhand Basketball Association delivered an impressive performance in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
During the interaction, Roy congratulated the players for their success and appreciated their dedication. Responding to a request from the Association’s General Secretary and international coach J.P. Singh, he approved the temporary use of two rooms at his Baridih office for the association’s activities until alternative arrangements were made.
The event was also attended by Mukhtar Alam Khan, Brand Ambassador of Mango Municipal Corporation, and senior basketball player Asif Khan, among others.
