Parsudih Mandi traders observe bandh, gherao police station

Jamshedpur: Parsudih Bazar Samiti traders observed a one day bandh here on Wednesday in protest of the incident of alleged loot of cash worth Rs 6.5 lakh from a trader on 19th September last.

The traders, acting at the bandh call given by Jamshedpur Chamber of Commerce, kept their shops closed on the premises of Parsudih Krishi Utpadan Bazar Samiti (Parsudih Mandi) from dawn to dusk. Led by the outfit president, Mohan Lal Agrawal, and traders’ representative from Vyapar Mandal Samiti, Deepak Bhalotia, the traders staged a demonstration before Parsudih police station in the morning.

The agitating traders alleged that police had failed to arrest the looters who had robbed cash from the foodgrain and oil trader Prabhu Dayal Agrawal and his son Rahul Agrawal at gunpoint from the Mandi premises.

A delegation of traders comprising Chamber general secretary Harvinder Singh Mantu and secretary Dilip Kumar Agrawal is going to meet the DIG of police, Kolhan, tomorrow to demand speedy police investigation into the loot incident.

The traders have demanded arresting of the looters as soon as possible besides demanding security. They said that such loot incidents had taken place earlier as well. Last year, cash was looted from a person at gunpoint near Parsudih Mandi.

“There are 22 security guards including two gunmen deputed in the Mandi by the government. But these guards are used as personal staff by the officials of the managing committee of the Bazar Samiti. Criminal elements take over the Mandi premises after dusk.

The security of traders is in serious jeopardy,” said Satya Narayan Agrawal, secretary of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce.
