Chamber of Commerce team meets SER general manager
Jamshedpur : South Eastern Railway ( SER) has directed staff deployed at the parking slot of Tatanagar railway station to wear uniform and proper ID cards. General manager P S Mishra during an interaction with a four-member delegation of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( SCCI), gave assurance that steps are being taken to improve passenger facilities.
“The meeting was fruitful. Apart from ensuring uniform and ID’s to the parking staff the SER general manager also supported widening of the parking area to make it more spacious to that it can accommodate more number of vehicles,” said Vijay Anand Moonka, general secretary of SCCI. The four-member trade body delegation was headed by president Ashok Bhalotia.
The general manager also assured them construction of the approach road opposite Raj Hotel in Jugsalai. The approach road linking the station to the new railway underpass near the Tata Pigments could not be constructed due to problems of encroachment.
The general manager directed his team to ensure functioning of the second entry to Tatanagar railway station from Burmamines end in a full-fledged manner.
Regarding the Jugsalai railway Overbridge project, the general manager assured the delegation that work has already begun on that ambitious project and that it would complete as per deadline.
The dream for the new railway overbridge at the Jugsalai level crossing inching closer as a massive anti-encroachment drive was carried out recently by the Tatanagar railways.
The railway overbridge is being set up jointly by the railway and state road construction department (RCD) at a cost of Rs 16 crores. The railway is contributing Rs 6 crores where as the rest of the cost will be borne by the RCD. The road over bridge would ensure smooth traffic and avoid decongestion as the commuters face it now while crossing the level crossing. The existing Jugsalai roundabout will remain where it is not, but its size will be reduced mariginally.
The SCCI delegation raised another important issue of introducing an additional AC chair car in Steel Superfast Express running between Howrah and Tatanagar. The SER general manager noted this point and gave commitment to the delegation for one AC LHB coach in that train. Notably, the Steel Superfast Express has LHB rake which was introduced last year.
Considered to be a lifeline of the steel city, Steel Superfast Express is equipped with 23 coaches ferrying over 3,500 passengers. Its conventional rakes run on self-generating system, which means each coach generates its own power through a dynamo fitted under the coach and a battery that is used in case of an emergency or when the coach is not in motion.
The LHB coaches include 15 ordinary chair cars, 3 AC chair cars, one executive AC chair car, a pantry car and two generator cars. The manufacturing cost of each coach stands at Rs 1.5 crore.
