Jamshedpur : Parents and students today locked up the faculty members and other officials of Sidhgora-based Ramakrishna Mission English School for more than three hours inside the school premises in protest against managements refusal to grant promotion to some students.
The parents and students of class VIII and class IX locked up school gates after allowing the students to go out after school. The lock-up continued till 2 pm when Sidhgora police station officer-incharge Sambhu Prasad Gupta arrived.
The school affiliated to the ICSE board, failed around 20 Class VIII students and 42 Class IX students after they performed poorly in the final exams held in February and March this year.
Parents Association president Umesh Kumar said that the school was violating Right to Education (RTE) Act by not promoting students in class VIII and also harming interest of the students of class IX who had already been registered for ICSE board examinations by not promoting them.
The parents also alleged that so far students have not been given their report cards to know in which subjects they have failed.
The school has however refused to promote any of the students. They scored very poor, We cannot promote such students. We have asked them to either continue in the same classes or they are free to get their children admitted at National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), said an official.
