Jamshedpur: Paparkar drubs fifth seed Shourya Manik, enters quarters of AITA Men’s National Tennis Tournament


Jamshedpur, June 6: Lucky Loser Arnav Kokane overcomes a marathon to enter the quarter finals of the Men’s Open Singles category at the ongoing 

TATA STEEL AITA Men’s National Ranking 1 Lac Prize Money Tennis Tournament 2023, held at the synthetic courts of the JRD Tata Sports Complex.

Kokane of Maharashtra dropped the opening set against Raj Rishi Keshari by a close 5-7 after which he made a strong comeback to bag the second set by 6-4. In the decider, it was Kokane who survived the pressure and played some long rallies to outclass UP’s Keshari by a long 5-7,6-4,6-2 lasting for over 3 hours and 20 minutes. 

In the major upset of the day, 15 year old Arnav Vijay Paparkar drubbed 5th seeded Shourya Manik by a straight 6-4,6-2. Paparkar will face Abhinansu Borthakur, the 2nd seed of the championship, in the quarter finals tomorrow. Borthakur got the better of Maharashtra’s Anish Ranjalkar by an easy 6-2,6-1.

Matches will be played from 07:00 am tomorrow.
