Pandora’s Box to unfold 13 wonders over two days in Jamshedpur from Saturday

Jamshedpur, Nov 24: After nearly 365 days of breathless yearning of Short Film buffs and connoisseurs alike, the 2023 version of SHORTS is all set to unfold 13 celluloid mesmerizers and conscience pinchers from its Pandora’s Box at the CFE (Centre For Excellence) Auditorium over two days beginning Saturday, November 25 from 5 pm daily.
Now into its 16th year of a challenging yet exciting sojourn that began in 2008, SHORTS happens to be the first and longest running annual film fest of its genre in Jamshedpur, a city that, besides making world class steel, continues to fan the fire of cultural creativity and sports superiority as reflected on the national and international podia.
The attraction of SHORTS that has continued to grow over the 16 year trek is the fruit of resolve built on the pillars of dedication and resoluteness of Tata Steel’s Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence (SPPE) and Kolkata’s Take5 Communications.
Addressing a special media conference at the CFE on Friday, November 24, Tata Steel’s Head, Event Management, Creative Centre and Corporate Protocol, Merlyn F Anklesaria and Take5 Communication’s COO and popular short, corporate and feature filmmaker, Tathagata Bhattacherjee gave a detailed information on SHORTS-23. Merlyn stated, “SHORTS, the Annual Short Film Festival of Jamshedpur is now in its 16th year. This is the longest running short film festival in Jamshedpur and, over the years, has become one of the most eagerly awaited events that celebrates meaningful cinema.”
During his interaction with the media, Tathagata observed, “SHORTS-’23 is a two day package of 13 SHORT Films that tellingly delve into the regions of Environment Preservation, Women Empowerment, Marital Discord, National Harmony and Motherhood, among others. The duration of the films range between 6 and 29 minutes. The films, in Hindi, English, Bengali and Assamese languages, are from Jamshedpur, Mumbai and Kolkata and one international entry from the US.”
The inaugural film of SHORTS-’23 to be held at the CFE Auditorium on Saturday, November 25 and Sunday, November 26, will be the international presentation from the US, ‘Visa for Maria,’ a six minute reckoner in English directed by Rajat Ghosh.
The other films featured in the list include an entry from Satyajit Ray Film and Technical Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, ‘The Mind Trainer’ (Hindi/SamiranSonwal/6 min), Biryani (Bengali/Sanjiban Mitra/12 min), Chhor Na Yaar (Hindi/AdikeshBhargava/22 min), I want Ma (English/Abhishek Ganguli/14 min), Jijibisha (Bengali/Meet Vasudevan/19 min), Vapour (Hindi/Mini Pandey/29 min), Fark (Hindi/Akshit Pandey/16 min), Talaashi – The Search (Hindi/Reetwika Banerjee/24 min), Naksha (Hindi/Navin Shashi/6 min), On the Banks of Subarnarekha (Hindi/Nafis Mustafa/9 min), The Sacred Grove of HaathiKheda (Hindi/Sushant Kumar/19 min) and No Parking (Assamese/NiponDholua/6 min).
The two day SHORTS-’23 will be inaugurated by chief guest, renowned educationist and social activist, Lalita Sareen. The guest of honour on the occasion will be Purabi Ghosh.
